In this task we have to create a design as a response to, or an inspiration for, the design that we have studied in Task 2, after choosing it and giving it some thought. In this project, we also have to incorporate our understanding of design concepts. Any appropriate medium and/or resources may be used to communicate our visual message.

MOODBOARD
Figure 1.0 Moodboard to my sketches ideas

With this ideas research I've inspired to do my sketches for UNSDG goals 13: Climate Action, my idea would be portraying an awareness about the dying world because of humans activities.

SKETCHES 1

Figure 1.1 First idea

In this idea of mine, I've plan to turn the elephant's face into an earth and split it into half to make a healthy side and a damage side of earth. As for the face, tusk and trunk I want to do it in 3D using a clay and for the title I planned to make it using a plastic bottle. Thus, the design principles for this sketches is emphasis, balance symmetry, contrast and text & image.

SKETCHES 2

Figure 1.2 Second Idea

The second ideas is coming from the birds that has been extinct (dodo bird), I've planned to form this bird's using variety of waste like plastics, bottles and trash. Thus, the design principle for this sketch is gestalt theory, repetition, emphasis and text and image.

SKETCHES 3

Figure 1.3 Third idea

Final sketch is a collage that the source of picture is going to be found in internet such as Pinterest. I'm going to produce my final works using Photoshop and why collage? this is because is not only easy to make but I could create a story using bunch of pictures with one aesthetics. Therefore, the design principles I can imagine in my collage is movement, emphasis, harmony & unity and proportion.

INSPIRATION BOARDS FOR FINAL IDEAL

Figure 1.4 Three inspired designs

I've found three different collages for inspirations, I've seen mostly the collage was all about environments and I've decided to make a complete opposite from these examples. Since, I'm all about spreading an awareness, mine would be a bit on a darker aesthetics or dull. I want to do the consequences of humans activities and ignorance towards the environments nowadays. Thus, this boards is just going to be a lead for me to do a collage and idea what to put in my collage.

PROCESS

These three collages of mine was produced using procreate the intention was to show to Mr Zeon and asked him for a final feedbacks. Thus, from there on I will produce the chosen one using Photoshop and improve it.

Figure 1.5 1st collage

I would say this collage is a bit out of place but surely I've story behind it as well. Like as you can see the person down there he was watching the world in future and where the heart of the earth needed to be healed. As for the animals, like elephants is already went extinct thus the future generations don't know how they looks like, that's why I put it the elephants with butterfly shaped ear's to make it out of from the fairy tail.

Figure 1.6 2nd collage

The second collage of mine, was a direct story where the outside world is pretty with colourful and green world but once you open the zipped the monochrome world is showing as time goes the zipper would be larger and the world that once we know colourful will leave us black and white.

Figure 1.7 3rd collage

Final collage, as the world advancing the more building the less trees and forest and not only the inside of earth affected by this so-called-technology but even the space full with space junk of satellite, rocket's parts and more.

PROCESS FOR FINAL COLLAGE

I've decided to put a space background in order to make my other collages stand out more because of this black background.

Afterwards I'm putting the earth in the middle to emphasis it by make the proportion of it larger.

Thus, In order to not make the earth and the background looks blended in, I'm putting a crumpled paper and overlay it on the earth.

Then, I put a slight shadow onto it to make the earth look like a collage.

I starts my collage by putting the mountains in the middle part.

Thus, I begun my collage by putting the details.

This is me trying to show a before and after effects after putting a shadow close up.

This is the after putting a shadow.

Same goes to this part a close up of putting a shadow.

The after putting the shadow so it doesn't looks flat for a collage.

As you can see the smokes that came from the cigarettes, I'm using a pollutions that happened right now in our world.

Final touched up, I'm putting a space junk to the space as our current space also were polluted.

FINAL COLLAGE

UNSDG 13: Climate Action

Despite the fact that there are many brilliant individuals in the world, their intelligence is tainted by ignorance and greed. The world is slowly dying because of those technologies and human activities, but nobody cares as long as the world is still intact.

Thus, my purpose for this collage is to spread awareness among humans about the consequences of our activities, which will actually have a downfall on the earth and even humanity.

The design principles that are included in my collage are firstly a movement, this is where you can see the movement of the roads that are heading to the cities, and the smoke that came out of the cigarettes is also a movement upwards. Second, the emphasis is on the earth because of its largest size and because it has become the focal point compared to the other collages. Lastly, unity and harmony help all the pieces come together smoothly, creating a balanced and pleasing overall look. Just like my collage, where everything fits together well, unity and harmony are vital for success in any collage project.

FEEDBACKS

Week 6

Most of the sketches is too direct and I'm being too limited on my ideas, but for the 3D (Figure 1.1) is fine and also the collage (Figure 1.3).

Week 7

Mr Zeon said to choose the collage that I can described the design principles most, thus he suggest the second and third collages would be fine. Therefore the critique that I've got for each collages was the first collage is a bit out of place (Figure 1.5), the second one is pretty nice but make it the middle part black and white and the outsider more colourful (Figure 1.6) and the third one (Figure 1.7) also fine but is too flat add some shadow to it and adjust a bit some of the collages.

REFLECTIONS

Experience

Through this assignments I've experience to do a collage about an awareness that I've been bottled up to spread and finally I can do it using my own work, collage. Even it's nothing much but I wish I could be helping UNSDG to complete their goals for climate action.

Observations

During this assignments, I've observed how greedy is human are and we will not be enough with what we have right now there's always the words of 'wanting more' whether it's power, money or even something that could lead to the downfall of the earth, human's greeds is unstoppable. Therefore, a campaign would be the only way to keep humans on where they're standing.

Findings

I've find that a lot of artist is actually having at least one of their artwork would be about the world, whether the environments that we once knew or the destruction aftermath. This makes me realised that there's still people out there wanting to help but they don't have the power to speak up but without noticing their artworks has helped and open the eyes of a students like me. Same goes to my work I hope that it will help someone to realised the current states of the earth right now.

History of collage [Early Precedents]

Kurt SchwittersDas Undbild, 1919, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart

The invention of paper in China in 200 BC gave rise to the collage technique, which did not become widely used among calligraphers in Japan until the 10th century. Collage first appeared in mediaeval Europe in the thirteenth century, and its use in Gothic cathedrals with gold leaf panels proliferated in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Collage art was first utilised in books and mementos in the 19th century, although it is best represented by the work of Mary Delany in the 18th century. While collage is frequently attributed to Picasso and Braque in 1912, early Victorian photocollage from the 1860s suggests collage was practiced earlier. The Art Institute Chicago hosted the "Playing with Pictures" exhibition in 2009, which featured collage pieces by a number of artists, including Mary Georgina Filmer and Alexandra of Denmark.
