Task 1: Proposal

In this task in a group, we were told to do a research on 'Cultural Sensitivity in Design'. Thus, we were asked to do a powerpoint of our chosen topic.

Task 2: Data Collection

We were told to do a data collection based on our chosen topic, since my group are going to Japan we were asked to do a topic related to Japan culture sensitivity.

Task 3: Visual Design

For this task me and my teammates we were planning to do a guide book for our final task.

PROCESS

Before we were doing a group discussion I've come up with these research before hand. Thus this is only my research that I've come out with but we decided to go for my other teammates ideas.

As we forming up a group, we're decided to make a poll to choose a topic for our research in the whatsapp group. To begin with, everyone was really corporative from the start thus our progress is progressing. Therefore, as the voting showed most of us voting to do a research on 'Geisha'.

FIELD STUDY

The students are required to collect visual, oral, textual and tactile artefacts that would be part of their research materials for the ideation in Project 1 (proposal). All collected artefacts and materials must be
recorded, kept and documented, accompanied by necessary information such as the type of artefact and material, its purpose, its symbolism, its cultural/historical background, and more, depending on the kind of artefact and material.

Data Collection Journey

As we have briefed last year about Japan Study Trip for this module, I have taken my part on this trip to Japan, Osaka and Kyoto. We've observed the Do's and Don't's in Japan for example the most obvious thing is the signage and the posters surrounds us, thus, we've also observed the etiquette and Japanese mannerisms with our own eyes as part of our data collections.

This is the link for our drive, the picture of signage and Japanese etiquette that we've taken while in Japan:

REFLECTIONS

Observations

When my group and I travelled to Japan, we saw firsthand the customs and culture of the Japanese people. Comparatively speaking to Malaysians, Japanese people are incredibly polite and soft-spoken. As a Malaysian, I firmly believe that in order for us to become more dignified, we need to take after the Japanese.

Experience

I've got to experienced going to Oversea with a friends for a first time, the memory there will be missed. Aside from that. Working in group has been my least preferred things to do but I'm glad how my group mates turns out to be so well and very corporative.

Findings

This module has gave me the opportunity to see and analyse on Japanese people Culture and Etiquette more in depth and I also got to know more about their culture ever since this module was introduced to me.
