In this assignment we were tasked with printing our own book and submitting
psychically to Mr. Hijjaz. This tasked requires to determine the format (size
and binding method), and an appropriate & attractive layout based on a
suitable grid system, choice of fonts and use of colours.
RECAP CONTENT
Figure 1.1 Book Contents
Figure 1.2 Visuals
We have to use the content and visuals that we did back in week 1 - week 7 and
transfer it into Indesign to make a book for this task 3.
Progress in Indesign

Figure 1.4 Progression in Indesign
As per instructions I've laying out the contents based on the grid system in
Adobe Indesign, apart from that I've used the same colour palette as my visuals
for the subtle elements that I've utilised to enhance the pages in order to make
it more cohesive.

Therefore, as I've done with content layouts I've moved to designing my book
cover in Adobe Illustrator as Mr. Hijjaz instructed. I used the same
size format which was 180mm x 240mm and I added a spine with 5mm width. The
reasons I've put words on the spine was due to the binding technique that I
have chose which was 'Perfect binding technique' this was because I think this
technique will look more neat to use on my book and I like my book to
look more professional.
Also I've put severals of title font options and I've asked for Mr. Hijjaz
opinion and thus, he said this typeface suits the best for my book, therefore
this typeface has ended up becoming my title.

I've printed this book on Tuesday 26/11/24 and I've received this book on
Wednesday 27/11/24. As I went to print this book at Angel Printing in Subang,
the staff was so helpful and friendly and he has helped me with deciding the
best material for my book as I don't really know much about it and he teaches
me how certain cover works with and without matt laminate on them and so on
but as I chose the matt laminate on my book the price was quite expensive but
its still between my budget. The staff there also was very helpful when it
comes to exporting my file and he also asked me to adjust some of the elements
on my book to make it more readable.
I was glad that I brought my laptop along when I went to print as I can do the
adjustment on the spot.
Also, after sometimes since I sent my book for printing the staff suddenly
contacted me and saying that my spine was smaller than the size I intended to
do which was 5 mm. Thus, the text on the spine was not fit to the actual size
and I decided to remove it and leave my spine blank.

FEEDBACKS
Week 9
The layout wise are fine everything look neat and ready for printing, but
maybe can add more elements like a lines to make the pages look full. Leading
can make it more bigger as the original was 12 point and make it to 14 point.
Later before printing please add a 0.5 cm bleed onto the colour pages.
Week 10
Already can submit it, so far everything was fine but the font size maybe a
little bit too big to look at because the normal font size should be between
8-9 point.
REFLECTION
Experience
Undertaking this task was a significant learning journey. From the initial
stages of planning to the final production, I faced various challenges, such
as ensuring precise measurements for the book dimensions and handling
technical issues during the printing process, particularly with spine
adjustments. Using Adobe InDesign and Illustrator allowed me to explore and
implement professional design techniques. This project also required
meticulous attention to detail, particularly in maintaining consistency
across the layout and visual elements.
Observation
Through this project, I observed how critical it is to balance creativity
with technical precision. Ensuring that the design elements such as colour schemes,
typography, and layout worked cohesively was essential in producing a
polished and professional book. Feedback sessions with my lecturer, Mr.
Hijjaz, were instrumental in this process. His guidance helped me identify
areas for improvement, such as refining font sizes and adjusting the
placement of certain design elements. These observations reinforced the
importance of incorporating external input to achieve better results.
Findings
This task underscored the importance of planning, experimentation, and
adaptability in design. I learned that even minor adjustments, like tweaking
the spine width or font size, could significantly impact the overall
quality. Additionally, the experience highlighted the importance of
collaboration, as insights from Mr. Hijjaz and professional printing
services played a key role in overcoming challenges. Overall, this project
was a valuable opportunity to deepen my understanding of publishing design
and to develop my skills in managing both creative and technical aspects of
book production.
